got everything in for assessment. then had a group crit with a mix of book arts and print students, and our tutors. quite interesting though there were 4 book arts to 2 print students, so perhaps not as much of a mix as had been hoped. some good feed back and some pretty bad comments from the print tutor needing some thick skin. awaiting feed back from assessment, then it's on to module 2...

i finished a number of ink drawings. they are from the tracing paper drawings i posted before. we have assessment on monday, so after that i will have time to experiment with the presentation of them. 

i finally got to the studio to put my tracing objects up and see how it looked. i am trying to sort out all my work for assessment, which is on monday. The other works are also still up on the wall. one line drawing from photocopied numbers and a few lines drawings from the cut up letterpress numbers. the tracing objects seem to spread across the space and almost seem like a living swarm. it will take some more thinking on it. and i also have some more ink drawings to consider ...

we went up to leeds last weekend for a book fair at the uni. it was hard work running up to it and quite stressful but good to be there. it was pretty big and great to have a wander around and chat to some other people. a good experience.

i've been in the studio playing around. some connections are becoming visible between the different investigations. the lines are directly stuck on the walls with tape making them quite temporary. this is pretty interesting to me at the moment, especially in relation to the book (something that is created with the archive in mind). there is also something quite organic in the way the work grows across the wall. and it also worth thinking about the labour intensive, hand-made work and what value this has. sticking the numbers on the wall (in previous post) is very time consuming, as are the other lines (the red ones). what does this mean? if anything? many questions at the moment ...

i've also been, and am still, working on a wall drawing. I'm using the numbers i've recorded from texts since the beginning of the year. these texts/numbers represent an important form of communication for me at the moment. anyway, i typed them up and photocopied them, then cut them and stuck them on the wall. the result is an obvious, yet quite faint line across the wall, which on closer inspection can be identified as being small numbers. i still have lots to do on it ...

oops, haven't put any work up here for a little bit. i guess i have just been a little busy, and been thinking about the essay we have on at the mo too. I went to the British Museum and saw an Andy Goldsworthy drawing where he'd scratched away layers from the paper. so i thought i'd try something like that. when it was done i was more interested in the shavings left behind. it was quite a laborious process, i think the shavings represent that quite well.
